The Museu Mineiro is located at João Pinheiro Avenue, 324, alongside to the Arquivo Público Mineiro. Its rich collection of documents, materially and symbolically, at different times of the formation of the culture of the state. Currently, there are over two thousand six hundred objects, gathered in thirty-six collections that come from private collections and other institutions.
Former Senado Mineiro, the building that is protected by Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico, being part of Circuito Cultural da Praça da Liberdade and is under the management of the Superintendência de Museus e Artes Visuais da Secretaria de Estado de Cultura de Minas Gerais.
An interesting curiosity: the creation of the Museu Mineiro began at the time of creation of the Arquivo Público Mineiro, i.e. before more than eighty years its inauguration. There are historical paintings, archaeological finds, furniture, coins and set of weapons, liturgical equipment and sacred images, dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Also, the collection of the Pinacoteca do Estado - with paintings, prints and sculptures - was also incorporated into the Museum's collection.
Be sure to check the works "A Má Notícia", painting by Belmiro de Almeida, the frames by Mestre Ataíde, that formed the decoration of a chapel in the city of São Domingos do Prata, and sculpture of São Miguel Arcanjo, a singular work of sacred art collection given to Joaquim José da Natividade.
