With a large and dynamic cultural program, the cultural center Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Belo Horizonte is located in the iconic yellow building of Praça da Liberdade.
This six floors building is a historical heritage declared by the state institute named Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico de Minas Gerais (IEPHA). Its architectonic design was conceived by the great Brazilian architect Luiz Signorelli, founder of the architecture school of Minas Gerais. It has an eclectic style, influenced by neoclassicism and art deco, the building opened in nineteen thirty to be the Secretaria de Segurança e Assitência Pública place. The building restoration, to become CCBB Belo Horizonte, was coordinated by the restorer architect Flávio Grillo.
As well as the units in other Brazilian states, the CCBB Belo Horizonte promotes activities in visual arts, performing arts, music and educational program. With comfortable structure, regular and diversified schedule, the Cultural Center offers areas for temporary exhibitions; two rooms for permanent exhibitions; theater with capacity of two hundred and sixty-four seats; multipurpose rooms to audio-visual activities, debates, conferences, workshops, lectures, interactive and educational activities, moreover comfortable places for human interaction, lounge, food and a cultural products store.
While visiting the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Belo Horizonte, you must notice the majestic staircase in the building lobby. Made with granite, it shows up with its metal shape and the stained glass window background. A courtyard visit is also imperative, from there all the internal windows of the building can be observed and also the back view of the stained glass window.
