Located on the corner of Alameda da Educação with street Gonçalves Dias, next to the Museu das Minas e do Metal, the space combines contemporary manifestations, popular and folk, who instigate the visitor to learn more about the history and characteristics of Minas Gerais .
Housed in the former building of the Secretaria de Estado da Fazenda, the building was designed by the architect of the Comissão Construtora da Nova Capital, José de Magalhães. The building in eclectic style adopted for all buildings designed by the Construction Commission, was inaugurated together with the new capital, in 1897.
With museography of Gringo Cardia, the Memorial elements that constitute the identity of Minas Gerais are presented interactively in the 31 exhibition spaces and living, including being counted from the history of the building itself - where the foundation stone of Belo Horizonte was put. In addition, there are works by artists-symbols of Minas Gerais, as the backwoods of Guimarães Rosa, the theme that inspired Drummond, the "not art" from Lygia Clark and the work of Sebastião Salgado.
